Between 2002 and 2019 Shawn served as the editor and creative director of Hobo.

The recurring theme of Hobo, the one that somehow permeates every issue, is simply ‘journeys’ and as the American novelist Tom Robbins once told him, “how it’s possible to avoid the bourgeois compromise and to think, create, and even reside outside the realm of ‘normal’ expectations.”

Shawn’s had the chance to conduct one on one interviews with Noam Chomsky, Gary Snyder, Jeanne Moreau, Nick Cave, Pawel Pawlikowski, Barry Jenkins, the Safdie brothers, Harmony Korine, Isabelle Huppert, Ethan Hawke, Michele Williams, Willem Dafoe, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Adam Driver, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman and Naomi Watts.

What ensued was often working closely with talents such as Juergen Teller, Bruce Weber, Harley Weir, Cass Bird, Rodney Graham, Jack Pierson, Justine Kurland, Terry Richardson, Mark Segal, Lachlan Bailey, Mark Borthwick, Ari Marcopoulos, Hedi Slimane, Dan Martensen, Quentin de Briey, Ryan McGinley, the late David Armstrong, Henry Roy and Bernard Plossu among others.

With every issue, Hobo offers free single and double page spreads to select non-profits committed to defending wildlife and their habitats such as WWF, Born Free, Greenpeace, Vital Ground, Pacific Wild and Sea Legacy. To date Hobo has allocated $456,000 in advertising space to help publicize their initiatives. The pro-bono media placement in Hobo allows for conservation and wildlife foundations to tell their stories and spread the word about their movements or programs to thousands of new people.
